Taking Part In Church Services
You sometimes hear the phrase ‘children are our future’ but we believe that children are precious throughout their lives and play a valued part in church life.
As well as including child-friendly material, songs and stories whilst the children are in the service, we encourage children to take part in services in a variety of ways.
We invite children to come up on stage to take part in games, songs, and stories. We also encourage them to share their thoughts using a roving microphone if they don’t feel comfortable coming to the front. In fact we find that, as children feel more and comfortable and included, they are happy to take part in spoken prayers or prayer activities but we try to make sure we don’t put children on the spot or ask them to do more than they feel comfortable with.
Several times a year we work with the children to prepare a service. This might include preparing a drama, doing a collage or prayer activity or practicing a song. Earlier this year the children chose to put dance to a worship song during our Easter service. The church values children and the unique contribution they bring to our church life.
